Garden behind Green Quad!
Open Blog #1: Hello classmates! I just wanted to share with you guys this picture of my Garden Box just behind the Green Quad Building C! My friend and I planted broccoli, pak cok, cilantro, and some other "stir-fry" vegetables. As many of you know, eating locally-grown foods is one way to live sustainably! If anyone is interested in helping us eat some of these veggies please let me know, because I definitely won't be able to eat them all by myself! I will keep you updated on the status of our vegetables and might just bring some to class to give out if we have surplus!
Here are some simple reasons why eating locally grown food is better for YOU:
- Locally grown foods usually contain fewer chemicals.
- Locally grown foods have more taste since they’re fresher and keep longer in your refrigerator because they have not been sitting around as long as other produce.
- Locally grown foods have more nutritional value, also because they’re fresher. Local foods have been grown within a 100 to 200 mile radius of where they are delivered. The less time that passes since produce is harvested, the more nutrients it will have.
awesome. I also think that when you work on your garden that counts towards Green Quad events- i will check :)
